She will be taking over from the current mayor Councillor Dennis Steadman in a ceremony at Ferneham Hall.

As Cllr Steadman’s last official act as mayor, he will be presenting Fareham’s Citizens of Honour with their medals for the worthy work in the community.

This year’s winners are Ken Charman, the chairman of Titchfield Amateur Boxing Club, Marjorie Wise and Young Citizen of Honour David Hawkins.

Mr Charman, from Warsash, joined Titchfield ABC in 1972 and spearheaded the building and improvement of the club premises which is now one of the best in south Hampshire.

One of his priorities has been helping sick and disadvantaged children, especially those with a disability and terminally ill. To help these children he has raised more than £200,000 for his chosen charities.

Ms Wise, from Portchester, has been a member and volunteer with Open Sight (HACB) for 20 years and chairman of its Portchester Club for the past 10 years. She struggles greatly with her own health, but always provides help and support to those who have a sight loss. The club members appreciate her effort to ensure they get all the support and help that is needed.

David Hawkins, from Stubbington, is a young carer for his parents who never complains and continues to do remarkably well in school. He has been noted for being a very polite and caring young man.

Cllr Steadman said: “I’m delighted to present Fareham’s Citizens of Honour with their well-deserved awards. I would also like to thank everyone for their hard work and support during my time as mayor and to take this opportunity to welcome in the new Mayor of Fareham, Councillor Susan Bayford.”
