Fareham planners will today (October 9) discuss plans to turn the former butcher’s shop in Park Gate into an Indian takeaway.

The shop, which was branded the Traditional Butchers in Middle Road mysteriously closed in November last year and no trader has yet replaced it.

Now permission is being sought by Lynsey Hussain to transform the shop into an Indian takeaway, fitted with a canopy and external ducting and flue to dispose the fumes and cooking odours.

But three letters have been received by Fareham Borough Council objecting to the application from nearby traders, stating it would have an adverse effect on the retail image and function of Park Gate and other food outlets in the area.

Concerns were raised about the impact it could have on residential properties through noise disturbance, anti-social behaviour and litter, as well as the effect of cooking odour on an adjacent bakery business and other nearby properties.

The proposed takeaway is set to be open from 5pm to 11pm from Monday to Sunday.

If given the go-ahead it would employ six full-time workers and one part-time.

Planning officers have recommended permission be granted.

Councillors will decide on whether to give it the green-light at a meeting at the Civic Offices in Fareham today (October 9).
